Mangrove and reef restoration can be cost effective (B:C > 1) for flood reduction in more than 20 Caribbean countries. Restored natural infrastructure can provide $100,000/ha in flood protection benefits over project lifetimes.

Currently, more than half of the world’s population lives in cities, and by 2030, this figure is expected to reach 60%. In this study, system dynamics are applied to the economic modelling of the city of Santander (Spain) to analyse the profitability of investment in ecosystem restoration and in both green and blue infrastructure.

Mangrove forests play a critically important role in coastal protection. In this study we analyse whether a insurance product for the protection and restoration of mangroves following storm events could be developed.

Coastal flood risks and the needs for adaptation are rising. In a first, we quantify the socio-economic flood savings provided by mangroves every km across their entire 700,000 km distribution in 59 countries. Every year, mangroves avert flood damages to $65 billion in property and 15 million people.

Mangrove forests play a critically important role in coastal protection. In this study we estimate a value for the protection services provided by mangroves in Jamaica.

We identify how sensitive flood risk and adaptation analyses are to changes in the resolution of data and models. We further do these comparisons in the context of assess the benefits of an ecosystem-based approach for risk reduction.

A multistep approach is applied in the Philippines to value protection benefits by mangroves. Mangroves annually reduce flooding to 613,500 people and damages to 1 billion US$/year in property.

In this work, the Travel Cost Method (TCM) has been applied to obtain an annual economic value estimate of the National Museum and Research Center of Altamira, which varies between 4.75 and 8.00 million € per year.

This work rigorously values the social and economic coastal protection benefits provided by mangroves.

This work evaluates the potential interest for extraction of minor components in SWRO concentrates.

Mangroves and other coastal ecosystems act as natural defenses to reduce the risks from flooding, erosion and natural disasters. This report measures and values the coastal protection benefits of mangroves in the Philippines.

In this work, the Travel Cost Method (TCM) has been applied to obtain the economic value of El Soplao Cave (Geosite UR004, Cantabria, Spain) as a recreational site, providing an estimated result of 34,961,162 euros.

Based on the ideas of resilience, vulnerability and risk, we suggest a method for prioritizing project impacts for inclusion in Cost-Benefit Analysis, which includes both expert assessment and citizen preferences.
